Stuck at Work When SHTF: Get-Home Plans That Work | Episode 419
In this episode of the Survival Punk Podcast, we’re tackling a realistic but often overlooked scenario — what if the world falls apart while you’re at work?
Most people spend 8+ hours a day away from home. If something goes down — power grid failure, civil unrest, major natural disaster — you might be miles from your gear, your family, and your safety plan.
Let’s fix that with a rock-solid Get-Home Plan (GHP) built for the real world.
Why This Scenario Matters
Preppers love to talk about bugging out, but most of us aren’t at home when SHTF.
You could be:
In an office building
In uniform at a job site
Stuck in a metro area
10–50 miles from home
Surrounded by chaos and people who aren’t prepared
This is where calm planning beats panic. Every minute counts.
Step One: Build a Get-Home Bag (GHB)
A solid GHB is lighter and leaner than a bug-out bag. It should include:
Comfortable shoes (you may have to walk)
Water and purification tabs
Snacks with long shelf life (trail mix, jerky, bars)
Map with multiple routes marked
Flashlight and extra batteries
Multi-tool or small knife
Fire-starting method
Light poncho or rain gear
Cash (small bills)
Basic first-aid items
Optional: change of clothes, hat, gloves
Stash it discreetly in your car, locker, or somewhere you can always access.
Know Your Terrain: Office Survival Tactics
Start thinking like a tactical urban survivor:
Study exits: elevators won’t work, so know the stairs
Identify threats: who will panic, who will lead, who to avoid
Spot choke points and hazards: crowded lobbies, stairwells, parking decks
Plan your exit: 3+ routes home, avoid bridges and known high-traffic areas
Establish a communication plan with family in case cell service goes down
This is gray man 101. Blend in, move fast, and stay calm.
Final Thought: Don’t Wait Until You’re Trapped
When the world flips upside down, the first step is getting back to your home base — your people, your gear, your stronghold.
Listen to Episode 419 and build a get-home strategy that actually works — before you’re stuck watching the world fall apart from your cubicle.

What about people that drive entertainment tour busses? What do they do? They don’t even have food and often depend on going to a truck stop to use the bathroom and not only that sometimes they are pretty far from anything.?
