One of the earliest blog buddies I made was DB from Florida Hillbilly. Years ago when I was doing the Paracord Sandal I looked around to see if anyone else had done one. At the time the only other hit was on Florida Hillbilly’s DIY sandal post. He just used paracord as the thong on the sandal. Mine was all paracord. I left a msg saying I was working on one too. Being the great guy he is he said to drop a link to it. I’ve always been hesitant on randomly putting links to my site in comments. From that day we have been emailing back and forth. He even has an knack of wining many of my contests. I’ve seen his address so much I should drop by for a visit. DB grew up in West Virginia being a hillbilly. Hunting, fishing were a part of life for him. Looking for work he moved to Florida and has been stuck since.
Join James and Mike From Survivalpunk today as we Discuss National Preparedness Month. The guys share their thoughts on the Fiskars splitting axe. Read the article 6 reasons to stockpile blankets. Mike reads 19 life hacks to know in a catastrophe. This week on Nutrition Punk we have a funny article that’s been going around. 17 things to know before dating an athletic girl.
National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness month created by FEMA to spread personal preparedness. To me it’s a month-long celebration of being a prepper. It’s also a great time to take stock of what you have and what you are lacking. Many things need yearly inspections. Checking your food preps for out of dates. Ensuring your car is winter ready. Bug Out Bags need are customized for the season. For all the things you need to check once a year I like to do it in September for National Preparedness Month. The wild edible of the week is Crowberry. Five of Diamonds, Wind and berms is the permaculture minute of the week from the Permaculture Playing Cards from Paul Wheaton.
Mike gets interviews on Prepper Recon. James gets injured at crossfit. Meeting Mountain From the Primal Professional. The guys talk about Congress moving to end the prohibition of raw milk. What Steps do preppers overlook? The main topic of the day is on Apocalyptic fiction and lessons learned from them. Punk Gadget of the week is the Buck Hoodlum. Nutrition Punk of the day is Gluten free is a lifestyle not a product. The permaculture minute is Fungi. The wild edible of the week is sassafras.
Even though I am a self proclaimed anarchist I give props where there are deserved. This week I get to congratulate the gov on finally trying to remove raw milk Prohibition. It’s a ignorant law that doesn’t need to be there. I understand and accept any risk in the foods I eat.
This week James and Mike discuss some of their favorite apocalyptic movies. Not surprisingly zombies eat up the majority of the list. We talk about what is good about the movies. What’s bad in them. We also cover what lessons if any are to be had in them. Apocalyptic fiction is what lured me down the rabbit hole of survival. I like the way your mind goes to what would you do in those situations. How would you handle the threats. Some movies in the apocalyptic fiction world teach better than others. In the end James and Mike wholeheartedly disagree on the last movie. I hate the movie as an abomination. Mike thinks it’s a great movie. Who’s right?
Today I have on some good friends. Justing and Cheryl from The Crooked Tree Farmstead. In 2011, they’re family of 7 moved across the country and started over. Now a family of 8 (three daughters and three sons) living on an 11-acre homestead near the Great Lakes. They raise miniature dairy goats, free range chickens for meat and eggs, and turkeys. They grow a big organic garden and are passionate about learning and practicing the primitive skills of our ancestors, and living a more meaningful life.
Todays show is kind of a two parter. I ask Cheryl about homesteading. Raising goats and what kind of problems that is. Justin has a military and law enforcement background. I quiz him on all things tactical. With a few curve balls tossed in. For some reason the audio on Justin was a bit low.
