Getting Into Tactical Shooting With Lucas Apps

Today we welcome on Lucas Apps from the Triangle Tactical Blog and Podcast. Lucas Apps started the blog and podcast  at triangletactical.net back in 2012. He’s an avid concealed carrier, competition shooter, and outdoors enthusiast.  He has been  shooting for as long as he can remember, and won his first competition at a young age shooting a .22lr standing rifle match with his Boy Scout troop. Lucas is an Eagle Scout, and learned the basics of shooting, and outdoor skills from his time in scouting.

We focus the first half of the show with Lucas Apps explaining how to get into tactical shooting. Things to expect on your first time out to a shoot. We talk about safety concerns. Like how you should never go to a match wearing your firearm loaded. I had a buddy get disqualified for that once. So make sure you are familiar with the rules of your range.

10 C’s Of Survival How To Build The Best Kits

The main topic this week is 10 C’s Of Survival How To Build The Best Kits. I came across Dave Canterburys system years ago. Besides some of the stretched names to follow the C pattern I love it. The 10 C’s Of survival streamlines the kit building process. Taking much of the guesswork out of building a kit. It will work for all kits from a mini kit to a Bug out Bag.

You know you need to hit the first five then move on. If your kit does not have these 10 Items then you need them before moving on. You should include more than the 10’s of Survival in your kit but you could survive with just them.

We dig into each of the 10 C’s and give examples of each. What has worked for us in our kits and what has not.

Mike and I  go on to discuss where we diverge from Dave and the 10 C’s of survival. Dave is not big on first aid. He feels that duck tape should work till you make it to medical care. Mike and I both carry well stocked first aid kits. I don’t recommend everyone running out and getting suture kits. Having plenty of gauze and pads to stop bleeding is critical.

DIY 2 Survive A How To Guide Of Great Prepper Projects

Welcome to DIY 2 Survive A How To Guide Of Great Prepper Projects. I’ve collected some of my best DIY Projects in one easy place. Over the years since I started Survivalpunk I have done many DIY projects. Most of my best projects are a few years old now and are buried in the blog archives. Many of you might not ever see them.

With DIY 2 Survive A How To Guide Of Great Prepper Projects  I did the work of gathering them in one place. In this e-book you get 36 prepper projects.

This e-book is organized into 5 basic categories. Fire, Food, Gear,  Cleaning and Tech. Each section has several projects to choose from. I have detailed instructions to follow along with. There are over 150 photos in this packed e-book.

You will learn how to make a coffee can hobo stove with pot holders. The perfect lightweight stove to take backpacking. You don’t have to worry about bringing fuel with a hobo stove.  Learn how to make fuel tabs for esbit type stoves.

In the food section I teach you how to make your own camping meals. No more wasting money on Mountain House meals. Making them yourself and they will be much healthier than the junk on the market. I show you how to make fresh breakfast sausage at home. Finding sausage without fillers and chemicals is expensive. You get those 2 plus 10 more great recipes.

In the Gear section I show you how to make a velcro backed battery holder. These are really great to stick on packs and gear. They also are work amazing to keep batteries tidy in you pack. Have a great small light edc light and want to go hands free with it? I teach you how to make any small flashlight into a headlamp.

In the cleaning section I teach you how to save money and get rid of toxic cleaners. I have two chapters on making your own laundry soap. You will learn how to use baking soda and vinegar to clean around the house.

Lastly is the tech section. There are only two projects in here but they are big ones. First learn how to make a tough, waterproof, encrypted thumb drive to store your documents on. I may have over built this as it looks bomb proof. Finally building a backup battery bank. This is by far the most expensive and most important project in this book. I would not fault you for skipping to the end to do this one first.

Mini Kits

Mini kits, Bug Out Altoids Tins, BOATS are the main topic of today’s show. Mike and I Talk about the philosophy on how we build our mini kits. Designing it to fit your personal needs is the way to go. Building a kit for the woods is different from a city. Some parts may work universally but others won’t.

I build my mini kits exactly the same as all my other kits. I use the Dave Canterburys 10 C’s Of Survival.

Ten C’s Of Survival

  1. Cutting
  2. Combustion (A way to make fire)
  3. Cover (Shelter)
  4. Container
  5. Cordage
  6. Candle (A source of Light)
  7. Cotton (Bandana usually)
  8. Compass
  9. Cargo Tape
  10. Canvas Needle

I focus on the first 5 before moving on. They are the most important. In a mini Kit you could actually put all 10’cs in. However you have to sacrifice quality. The Altoids tin itself makes a decent container. You can boil water in it. I like to include a separate way to collect water as well. A roll up water flask or even a condom to collect water.

We mostly talk about building your own kit. Most the mini kits on the market are either cheap junk or really expensive. The deluxe kit I was talking about with the Blast Match, Starflash and other quality gear is on Amazon for $160! It’s a fucking mini kit not a Bug Out Bag. Yes get the best gear you can but not dipped in gold.

We Dig into all that as well as our normal segments.
