Today I’m doing a review of my Stag Arms AR15. This review I probably should’ve gotten up a long time ago but kept putting it off. I decided with all the anti “assault weapon” talk going around I thought now would be a good time to do it. Stick with me and let me tell you why Stag makes a great weapon and why for some of you it’s an ideal option.
When I had made the decission to buy an AR 15 rifle I settled on buying a Stag Arms model. I came to this decision based onthe fact that I’m left handed and Stag is one of the few manufacutreres that makes a left handed model. I’ve shot other guns and had to deal with shell cassings hitting me in the face and let me tell you it sucks. I decided if I was going to drop upwards to a grand on this weapon I was not getting hot metal in my face. A guy at my work owns a Stag leftie model and told me how much he loved his. So the decission was made, Stag it was. Now is when my odd obsession with buying local comes in. Before ordering it I decided to hit every single gun shop and a few pawn shops in the middle Tn area first. .While looking I saw some great deals. One shop had a really good deal but it would take a week to get there…That’s obviously too long I want it NOW! About the fifth or sixth stop I went to had a few Stag Arms AR’s and was a leftie Model 2L. Score! The price with a spare PMAG came to about $960! I could not pay fast enough.

At this point everything on it is factory. The only accessories I’ve bought are the extra PMAG magazine and an Special Operations Equipment single point sling. Although there are a few upgrades I plan on making: Magpaul stock, forend and pistol grip and an EOTECH sight. I really like those sights and am saving for one. Except for the EOTECH the others are more for aesthetic purposes. I’ve not had any issues with it. In fact the gun shoots better than I do. You may remember my recent visit to the gun range and my failed attempt to zero it. Which probably just made it worse. From the factory I was hitting my targets just fine, I just wanted to tweak out more precision and write an article on how to zero an AR15.
My only real complaint about the gun is that the magazine release is on the right hand side or the lower receiver. So I can’t press is with my trigger finger. I have to bring my right hand over to press the magazine release button. As for you righties I’ve had lots of my right handed friends put rounds through it with no complaints about it being a left handed model. My friend Gabe has put hundreds of rounds through it and not ever got hit with brass.
If your looking for a quality made in America AR15 and are left handed I cannot recommend this model highly enough. I have been extremely please with my Stag Arms Model 2L. In the thousands of rounds put down range I’ve had just a few jams. None after switching to Frog Lube. Last time I took the Stag out to the outdoor range I could see the Frog Lube being exuded from the pores of the bolt. It actually became wet while shooting.

Stag is the way to go for left hand person
Nice write-up. I have the 6L Super Varminter. Over 7k rounds and runs as smooth as ever. We test with golf balls set out at around 480 yds up on a hillside at our range in Carson City. Consistanly accurate as Hell! Eats all ammo except occasional steel crap. Absolutely the best company to deal with and superb quality. My only bitch is that they won’t make a .308 or larger.
Thanks for the write up. I just purchased my first ar. I was thinking about getting one but was unsure about the right handed models in came Stag. I was at the range last week and after an hour of practice I stopped and the gun counter and asked about what ars he had in stock. The reply was one stag 2l which just came in it was in the basement. Well he brought it up took it out of the box and in twenty minutes I was out the door. I never shot out of the box always clean and get to know the weapon before I shoot. Your article has reinforced my purchase.
