Dealing With Waste

In this episode we tackle an important albeit unglamorous aspect of survival. Dealing with waste during a disaster. We all have to go sometime. Without proper preparations that waste can become a serious health issue. With the right planning it can become an asset.

We talk about the various methods of disposing of both types of waste. How to get rid of it and how to use it. When treated properly both can prove very useful. From making amona to night soil. We get down and dirty today so you don’t have to.

  1. This was a good topic to cover. Lots of folks don’t think of what they are going to with the waste. Maybe this will get some people to start including waste disposal in their planning.
    Thanks.

  2. I would highly recommend the book Humanure. It give an excellent overview of human fecal / urine waste management. I am designing a system for urban disposal using 1 or more 55 gallon rolling composters and will be re-routing some of my composting waste through my drums vs. sending it through the city. Plus it makes sense when you think of the overall system of food production / waste reclamation.
