Pumpkin Spice Rubbed Steak

Pumpkin Spice Rubbed Steak

It’s fall and that means pumpkin everything. Maybe I go overboard but I love the pumpkin spice flavor. I’m not sure why I don’t think about it any other time of the year but during the fall my mind is consumed with pumpkin spice. Last year I came up with some pretty good recipes, Pumpkin soup and bars come to mind. This year I had an idea hit me and I knew I had to try it. The mission was to make a pumpkin spice rubbed steak. To combine two of my favorite flavors together to make magic. So lets get cooking!

The Steak

I was thinking I love steak and pumpkin spice. Would they work together? Would I make an abomination to feed my cats? Failure never bothers me so I went out and got a cheap Sirloin Petite steak for five bucks. It’s a decent steak for the price and if I messed it up I’m only out a few dollars. The sirloin also isn’t packed with flavor so if It came out good I can assume a better cut would taste better.

The ingredients

The steak came with two pieces so I seasoned them differently. On the little piece I used pumpkin spice seasoning. Coating the entire surface and patting it in. I also used salt and pepper. On the larger piece I also used salt, pepper and pumpkin spice. I added extra cinnamon and nutmeg though to try to push the flavor. I can’t give exact measurements I literally coated the steak.

Cooking

To cook I heated up some grassfed butter in a cast iron skillet on medium. Let the skillet get hot then throw in the steak. Cook a few minutes on each side. The steak I got was thin enough to cook entirely on the stove top. A thicker one will need to be finished in the oven. When it’s cooked to your preference let it rest then devour.

The Taste

So did it work? The combining of two great flavors? HELL YES! I was slightly worried the flavors would not combine well. That the pumpkin would overpower the steak. I was wrong they mixed perfectly and the result was amazing. It may have been one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. I have cooked hundreds of steaks and this one was easily top ten. The two flavors complimented each other perfectly. It had the pumpkin flavor I love and the steak goodness. Are you cooking yet? Why not! Get in the kitchen and make a pumpkin spice rubbed steak.
