Ok Let’s try this again. I love it when wordpress eat a completed post. It is getting cold outside. Even here in Tennessee it’s down to 21° already. With the cold comes the crud. With a combination of the weather and building I feel like crap. Sore throat, runny nose and achy. When I get like this there my go to solution is soup. It’s easy to make and warms you. It drives back the funk. Especially when made from homemade bouillon cubes.

Like I talked about recently I don’t like store bought bouillon cubes. They have all kinds of junk in them I don’t like. I have looked all over for better ones and have not found any. The solution is homemade bouillon cubes. Not the little rocks you get in the store but real ones. They are easy and good for you too.

To make homemade bouillon cubes you first need stock. That will be a post for another day. The basics are to boil a chicken carcass with veggies for the whole day. Strain and you have a wonderful chicken broth. This is the foundation of our homemade bullion cubes.

There are two ways to store your stock. Canning and freezing. Both have their benefits. With canning you have long term off grid storage. Great for when you need a cup or more of stock. Canning takes a lot of work though. If you only need a small amount, like a bouillon cube size, freezing is perfect.

The way I make homemade bouillon cubes is to pour the stock in an ice cube tray. When your homemade bouillon cubes is frozen pop them out. I put them in a freezer bag for storage. Try to remove the air from the bag to help with freezer burn.

When you need a bouillon cube just toss one of these in. They are so much healthier for you. They are so easy to make. The taste is no comparison to store bought ones. Homemade bouillon cubes are great to make quick soups. When your sick and tired quick is perfect.

I’m off to crawl under the covers have a great day.

  1. I’ve been doing this for a few years now. I freeze mine instead of canning them. I’ll never go back to store bought bouillon again.
