Tiny Houses And The People Who Live In Them Infographic

Today’s infographic Monday  I have one from The Tiny Life Blog on tiny houses. They spent several hundred hours crunching data on tiny houses to come up with an infographic.

More Tiny House People Are Mortgage Free

I want to break out a few numbers to discuss. 68% of tiny house people over 29.3 % of all us homeowners have no mortgage. More than half of us tiny house dwellers do not pay rent or a mortgage. That is a huge difference. More than double. The freedom you gain without paying a mortgage is amazing. For many, it can free you up to not work a job you hate. You can work a job you love or work fewer hours so you can spend more time with your loved ones.

No Debt

I love this statistic. 89% of those that live in a tiny house have less credit card debt than average American’s. 65% of us, myself included, have zero credit card debt. If you believe like me that debt is slavery then this should give you hope. Many are realizing they have been fed a lie and escaping. The trend of getting a bigger and bigger house all the while drowning in debt is dying.

Not Just The Young

If you think that just us youngsters are building tiny houses the giving the system the finger you are wrong. 2 out of 5 tiny house owners are over 50 years old. That comes out to 38% of tiny house people. The 40~50-year-old group has the lowest percentage with only 18%. So it would seem the older and wiser you get the more you realize the need to beat the system with a tiny house.

Today I have another update for the tiny house build. I shot some new video after the ceiling was up. There is a bit more done after the video. Finally all the ceiling boards are up. In the video there is still a gap in the ceiling. We had to cut boards to fit where the boards met. Above the loft we removed the support brackets to give more head space. The rest of the ceiling has a flat area in the center. As of right now where they meet is a hollow triangle that needs to be covered.

Overcome And Adapt

Windows and Wiring Overcome and adapt
Overcome And Adapt

I’ve touched on this subject before. Overcome and adapt. With the tiny house build I’ve embraced it further. Many will fall apart when they get to a problem. Things have to work out right or they loose it. I would be screwed if that was the case. House building will teach you to overcome and adapt.

It’s like a battle between you and the house. The house will only accept you if you can beat it. For being such a small house it has thrown a lot at me. Today I just got two more delays. Making the movie in deadline of a week from now seem that much harder. I’ll overcome and adapt of course. I’m already thinking of solutions. My impatience is kicking in though.

Tiny House Update 11/14/2014

Tiny House

I’ve been busy with the tiny house lately. I have a lot to do in a little time. I have to be moved in by December first. Before I move in I need to finish the insulation and get the walls up. That’s about two weeks from now. We were also trying to beat the weather. A cold snap finally came through. Right now in sunny TN it’s a chilly 21° F.

This winter might be as cold as they are saying it will be. Getting the insulation done in the tiny house done is critical. I need it to keep out the cold and keep the heat in.

Experiences In A Tiny House

I was thinking about my time spent living in two tiny sheds recently. I realized It was a story I briefly mentioned on a podcast once. Today I’m going to go into it a bit more. I think there are a lot of lessons from the tiny house experience. It was from summertime to winter that I lived in 2 10×8 sheds. From both a construction viewpoint to a tiny house living one I learned so much. The reason I got to thinking about it was a conversation with my buddy Dave from TnGun.  It was about me not freezing to death this winter. I laughed at the idea. The Survivalpunk will not be freezing and I have the history to prove it. So let’s get into the story.
