Open Carry March on Washington D.C

I follow YouTube freedom fighter Adam Kokesh on Facebook and saw his post a while back about forming an armed March on Washington D.C. I’ve followed it since then with a lot of curiosity. I initially formed some pretty negative thoughts about the concept.  From watching more videos and reading about it I’ve begun to change my mind. Today I’ll share my thoughts on the event and what I think about it.

The March

“On the morning of July 4, 2013, Independence Day, we will muster at the National Cemetery & at noon we will step off to march across the Memorial Bridge, down Independence Avenue, around the Capitol, the Supreme Court, & the White House, then peacefully return to Virginia across the Memorial Bridge”

This will not be a permitted event, it is an act of civil disobedience, since the carrying of firearms is not allowed in D.C at all. The marchers will carry loaded and slung rifles to show the government that they do not cower in the face of tyranny. Adam says that this will be a peaceful march and if met with armed resistance they will simply turn around and go back. You can check out the  Facebook Even Here.

Concerns

Like I said when I first heard about this even I thought it was a bad idea. I thought that is would be used against gun owners by the folks in Washington that want a disarmed nation. That the even would go wrong somehow and be used as an example of why people shouldn’t have guns. Maybe the government would put an agent in the march and have them open fire and cause a blood bath. I didn’t have any concerns as to the marchers being arrested. At the time of this writing there are almost 4,000 people that have said they will be marching. I seriously doubt that they will arrest that many peaceful marchers. Those were my original thoughts, Then I said Fuck that.

“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.” – Thomas Jefferson

I realized that my concerns boiled down to fear of what the government might do. That they might plant an agent, that they might arrest marchers, that they may just open fire. I was afraid of a lot of may’s and mights when there was a bigger certainty. The government is becoming ever more tyrannical. The time to make a stand is now. Yeah something might happen but if we do nothing then something definitely WILL happen. If not now then when. I don’t claim to know what the government’s endgame is but I do know that they will keep trying to get more power at the expense of freedom until they are put in their place.

Where I originally thought it was a bad idea I now support the Open Carry March and anyone that makes it!

  1. Whether it be a just law or not, by participating in this you become a felon. In effect, to make a statement, you are giving up your right to the second amendment by participating. You are crossing state lines, and thus allowing the Federal government to step in because the District is considered a separate legal entity from the other states.

While personally I do agree that no carry in D.C. is a bunch of crap, this is not the way to get it changed, and I don’t see a march like this actually accomplishing anything. You don’t have enough mass (4,000 marchers?!) to be noted as anything other than extremists. If the media does cover it they will take quotes out of context and cover it as radicals.

If you want to fight for liberty do it, but there are better ways to do it without giving up the rights you are trying to protect.

    1. I really doubt that our broke capitol will be arresting and prosecuting 4,000+ people for felonious carrying. I’m not sure this is the best way nor the worst way. I wont be going personally, just to make that clear. I am interested in the outcome of the march however. I’m sure more will join before the date of July 4th. What would be a better idea in your opinion.

  2. So…when you don’t like one law, feel free to break as many others as you want????

Do you really think that 4000 ARMED people descending on the nation’s capital would be ignored??? There would be 4000 people in jail and 20 new gun control laws being pushed through.

If you want more of your gun rights taken away, do stupid things like this.

  3. Kokesh is an anti-war activist. He is a member of an organization who I personally consider to be traitors to every man and woman who wore the uniform, most especially because they served with us, and then turned on us when they got back home. I would sooner shoot them all down before I would stand with them, and do not, and will not, support anything any one amongst them are trying to do. I personally look at Kokesh as a mentally unstable wack-job who does not have a clue what he wants or what he wants to accomplish. I kind of look at him in the same light as I look at Jane Fonda. There are enough heroes out there who are doing noble things to support rather than get behind one fruitcake who is trying to get a little attention, because apparently his momma must have not rubbed his little bottom when he was a kid. Or maybe it got rubbed too much. In any case, this guy and this operation are about as intelligent as a 50 pound bag of stupid! – Scott

  4. As much as I believe in proving to the government that we are not afraid of them, and that they should be afraid of us, I do have to agree with the opinion of some of the commenters above.

I for one have busted my butt to learn the laws of my state and what it takes to carry concealed. And when I do go to get my permit, it will be with a lot of hard work and training behind it. To waste that training by doing something as dumb as going someplace I shouldn’t be with a gun, only to have it taken away from me after all of that hard work, is just all levels of stupid.

There is a fine line between bravery and courage, and unfortunately he’s gone WAY over it.

  5. It seems like a checker move in a 3d space chess game. Way too easy for the powers that be to expliot the situation for their gain. Brave or courageous it still seems tacticaly unsound. The sentiment may be in the right place but there has to be a better way to protest spiked pits than jumping into them.

    1. It is pretty easy for the government to take control. I saw a good video by the HossUSMC on YouTube how Adam actually has a good position where the they, the government, acts too aggressively they week be seen as the tyrants they are. If they arrest Adam he will sue on the second amendment and there was a third reason too.
