It’s been a while since I’ve built a Cold Weather Debris Survival Hut. And something about the cold weather puts me in the mood to make one.

Possibly it is the widely available leaf matter on the ground. Or that it’s cool enough to enjoy working outside.

There are many different methods to building a debris hut. The one pictured in this infographic by Willow Haven Outdoor uses two “Y” shaped branches.

I have always preferred to find a long pole with a “V” fork on one end.  Then wedge that into a standing tree.

Either method will work. As will a million variations on them.

Building a Cold Weather Debris Survival Hut doesn’t have to be rocket science. It can be as complex or as simple as you desire.

You can build a shelter for a night or a season.

But the important part is to practice. Learn how to make one now while there is no emergency. So when you need one you can build one.

With everything practice makes perfect. Just because you have built one once does not make you a Cold Weather Debris Survival Hut expert.

I will be making a shelter building challenge on the Survival Punks Group on facebook soon. So we will see who has the chops to build a nice shelter.

I have an Ebook on  Paleo Pumpkin  Recipes I worked really hard on for you. I would love for you to make some recipes from it and enjoy them.

  1. Love these things. Yea, they are dirty. Yea, they make you itch. Yea, they keep your ass alive! My partner and I gave a class on these years ago and one of the students refused to sleep in his because it would be dirty and itchy. Needless to say, I was doing so nighttime cold weather treatment on the punk. He learned a valuable lesson that night and to this day he tells me that a little discomfort might save your life one day!

    1. Exactly. No its not the best sleep you’ll ever have. But you’ll wake up alive. Im thinking a survivalpunks shelter building challenge is in the work’s
