Episode 49 Iceapocalypse

James and Mike A Day In THe Woods Autoimmune Diseases
James and Mike

This weeks podcast almost didn’t happen. The weather tried to prevent us from coming together to record. TN  was hit hard by an ice storm this past week. I was trapped in the tiny house for 6 days. Mike was stuck home for three.

This week we talk about a TN bill to decriminalize marijuana. A new home battery bank from Tesla Motors. Officials say eating healthy is a mental disorder.

The main topic this week in on the Iceapoalypse we had. The Governor of TN declared is a class 2 state of emergency. Yes I know you northerners are laughing it up. We don’t have the equipment down here to deal with it. It is the south afterall. It was ice as well not snow. Snow I can deal with. Ice is the devil.

It was a real test of my preps this week. I found what works and what was lacking. I ordered snow chains to fill that gap in my preps. I am also going to be ordering powdered heavy cream.

Join us this week as we talk about topics such as: Montana trying to ban yoga pants?! Michelle Obama say’s eating healthy will keep the government out of your life. Starbucks will start offering paleo friendly coconut milk.

The main topic of the week is on Audiobooks and podcasts. The listener has a long commute and wants to know some things to listen to on the drive. We list both survival, dystopian fiction as well as some learning and entertainment ones.

Mike and I both have long commutes and prefer to listen to podcast over the radio. I realized we somehow didn’t mention the Lost Skills Podcast with Jeff Radtke and included that in the show notes. I love the near endless amount of podcasts to choose from. There are podcasts on any topic you are interested in. If you can’t find one on a topic start one.

James and Mike

This week we have a very special episode. We talk about cosplayers taking on the Apocalypse. Does Marijuana cure depression? The main topic of the day is a thought experiment. What would a libertarian/ Anarchist world look like.

We tackle some of the big problems of life. The first and biggest one is Who would fix the roads. This is the question I always get when I talk about anarchism. People are obsessed with roads and think without government they would disappear. Mike and I beat this and other problems to death.

We discuss how government is dealing with different issues and how would it be better in a libertarian world.

Braaitime Biltong

Braaitime Biltong Review

A few years back I wrote a top ten list of Paleo foods to store. On that list I picked Biltong as one of the top items. Biltong if you’ve never heard of it is a dry pickled meat from south africa. In the article I stated that it beat out jerky for several reasons. Biltong unlike jerky is still very moist. It has a concentrated flavor that is not salty. When I wrote that post the only way to get biltong was to make it yourself. I tried to find a commercial biltong maker for you guys and could not. Recently I had a comment on the article from a company in the US that makes Biltong. I checked them out and sent them an email asking if they would be willing to send me a sample for review. Braaitime Cured meats and the wonderful Nicolle sent out samples and I have some thoughts to share.

Join James and Mike this week as we tackle topics such as. Cheap gas and what is really means. The EPA is protecting us from wood burning stoves. The main topic this week is paleo for noobs. I got an email on how to get started on paleo.

Many people would love to get started on paleo but don’t know how. What is paleo and what do you eat? What are the rules to follow and what ones can be broken. Mike and I answer your questions on all things paleo.  James shares tips with you on how to be successful. Mike shares his experience when he went hardcore paleo. The wild edible of the week is Black Walnuts and Butternuts. Bill Molison is the Permaculture Minute from the Permaculture playing cards.

You can really geek out on the science of why to eat a paleo diet. If you are interested in that I suggest picking up Robb Wolf’s Book The Paleo Solution. It was what got me started on paleo. Robb digs deep into the science behind why eating this way is good for you.
